Amazing Spider-Man future possibilities

Hello MyIGNers! I have decided to take a step towards a different direction for my blogs and this will mostly contain upcoming movies (mostly Marvel) and comic books to which it currently owns a proportion of my bedroom with over 200 of just the Simpsons comics but I know enough knowledge of other comic books out there unless but let me know in my blogs if I mix up Iron Man as part of the DC Universe... and I don't just mean as a form for target practice for the superheroes. Although don't worry about me talking about comic books for the next few months. I aim to write many varieties of blogs throughout the year as always so this is just the start of a new blog series.

So for this blog, I would like to talk to you about the future possibilities of the movie series just like the many dozen Marvel movies being released this year, known as the Amazing Spider-Man and the far future of the series. I am not referring to any predictions of the upcoming movie but where the series may go within the unconfirmed territory. Already, there has been the announcement of a set of movies up until the Amazing Spider-Man 4 with including some spin-off films. However, where could future movies go after the Sinister Six storyline is finished? Well here's a few of my ideas on where the CGI menace could go next and how this may be beneficial for the series.

New supervillain team

There are only a few supervillain teams Spider-Man runs in to as he's not really part of a group like the X-Men that deals with thwarting other team plans. Although there are some exceptions like the Sinister Six so contradictory to what people say about his powers being not so great, they are forced to team in order to finally defeat him once and for all. I have a feeling their jealous but there are a few others such as the Sinister Syndicate which involve the Beetle and teaming up with villains aside from the archnemises of Spider-Man but not exactly lesser known foes either including Hydro-Man and the Shocker.

Although in some ways, I think that this would be a good move especially if the Rhino (and of course Spider-Man) survive past the fourth installment but at the same time, it might feel a tad too much like the Sinister Six especially since it's inspired from that time originally so why not introduce these supervillains separately? I mean you have the Shocker and the Rhino which would be pretty much like the upcoming film so why not just skip those villains and carry on with others or even the extension of the Sinister Six with about only 2 villains per movie?

These aren't just the only supervillain team out there since there are the Femme Fatales and the Savage Six. This way, it would make use of some of the lesser known yet cool villains and could easily make it standalone from the main series in to a brand new set of films. Although this could generate a considerable amount of issues especially if all the villains were all set one movie and I think the main problem with introducing a new villain team is that the developing staff for the movie may change and so they may take the series in a brand new direction for the franchise. Especially if the movie wasn't to do so well by the majority of the audience so thus, that part of the series may never be revisited again for at least a while and it's the same with bringing new supervillain teams as the developers may not have confirmation that they can work on the next installment. The other problem would be the lack of connection towards the characters since they would require origins and possibly more than one movie to show how they cope in tricky situations and I'm not referring to waiting in a line for a McDonalds. With the Sinister Six, that aspect is already approved as there will be origins or the villains and they will accept brand new villains in to their team in the following movies especially with a full movie of their own to address any origin stories left missing... unless it's just something for the CGI museum.

However it's possible that just after the Amazing Spider-Man 3, Andrew Garfield could simply drop out of the series and in order to maintain the series and prevent yet another reboot, this could be the path for the new actor, as well as reintroducing Mary Jane again.

Although what happens when the series and story become the same? Will they leave it at that or will they go further?

New Spider-Man or Woman

It's clear that there are a few characters that steal the Spider-Man's suit and Spider-girl is no exception. With Peter Parker's daughter, May Parker, it's possible that this could bring a new theme to the series of already developing the powers from birth rather than secretly walking in to a high security lab full of Spiders watching guard and this I believe is one of the directions the Amazing Spider er... Girl series should start at the expense of possibly the Amazing Spider-Man 5 movie.

We already have about 3 villains for the upcoming movie and most likely, this will be similar for the next films to follow as the developers would want to use as many villains as possible whilst they have the power to do so. This of course could create a new set of outcries similar to the response of Spider-Man 3 but even if there were too many villains in just one movie, there's always going to be villains that they're gonna leave out, potential storylines that will be looked over and new characters that will team up with the Spidey. So why not leave all of these possible storylines for the next addition of the Spiders? I mean, they've already introduced new storylines in the film series and there are currently substantial alterations with the stories, particularly the origins of the characters so it wouldn't hurt to introduce villains such as Scorpion and even Morbius for a brand new character.

There are villains that are already a given for the Spider-Girl series such as Aftershock and Doctor Octopus and it would be interesting to see a team up with Anya and how she could potentially become a new character for the series. Both characters I would love to see as a type of legacy when Peter Parker decides to just become a journalist and whatnot and well... retire as Spider-Man. This could even branch out a whole range of characters such as with the Spider Society.

Despite mostly being a set of mini series, I could imagine the franchise developing in to something similar to what Marvel have already done with the Avengers and if Sony are thinking of keeping the Spidey series, I believe this is the way to go in order to introduce a new style of character to the superhero movies and expand the series they already own. Especially since we've never got a superhero movie with a female main protagonist before and I could imagine the Spider Society becoming the equivalent of the Hellfire Club in X-Men: Fist Class. Maybe not something huge but has an expansive storyline behind it. How about Spider-Woman's storyline of Jessica Drew or of Spider-Man's clone, Ben Reily.

The main positive aspect out of this series is that the Spider-Man series can still continue regardless of the Amazing Spider-Man series and could present themselves as prequels to the original Spider-Girl. Maybe in a brand new movie universe.

The possibility of another universe however only branches off further in to new territory where comics are constantly changing their continuity with brand new versions forging single books and even developing in to huge series!

Different universe

Within the DC and Marvel universe and even areas outside of comic books, there are a multitude of multiverses within certain franchises and with the Spider-Man series, there are many. Especially since there have been many comic books since the 1960s and so they have been altered to test the waters of a new storyline, reboot from all the existing plot holes that make fans of the books hurt their eyes and simply to suit the new audience of the current day and about 5 decades will almost certainly be subject to change especially in the crazy timeframe of the 1900s to 2000s. So Spider-Man is certainly an old character but far from retirement.

That's what the comic books do. They'll make new storylines to prevent the previous series from possibly becoming stale whereas many will still enjoy those comic books and request to read them again. This is what might happen to the movie series. There may become a point where we may become a tad bored with a movie every 2 years and would prefer to have something out of the wild and try out something new.

So what storylines and versions could we see in the future if a new sub series was made? It's very possible we could see something like the what if storyline especially since there would be so many versions within that particular storyline. Even more than flavour choices offered for Ice Creams in Scandanavia. There is simply no bounds and I believe to some extent, the series is still progressing. On the other hand, a small storyline may prevent a huge film series from taking place so how about just a standalone movie on one event and examine what the success was for that in order to consider a sequel.  The Amazing Spider-Man series is named after the very original Spider-Man comic book series but is mostly based on the Ultimate Spidey series which is why you don't see many people in colourful suits.

How about introduce the Spider-Man 2099 or even his clone Ben Reily? Similar to Spider-Girl, it would eb a different person taking on his suit with a variety of villains they could tackle for the future series.

The next one I think many of you might go a little crazy about and you may have been expecting this.

Crossover with the Marvel movies

As the superheroes grow up, so do the supervillains and thus they become interlinked within a shared universe and it's really the inevitable fate of the Marvel movie series with the Avengers expanding with news on the next movie about every 6 minutes but what is the main problem is that since the rights belong to so many different companies and it truly baffles me as to why the series ended up in those places, it's unlikely we'll see a crossover with huge teams like the Avengers and the X-Men and more standalone heroes like Spider-Man, at least not anytime soon and in some ways, I believe the Marvel movie franchise is being limited to what it could become. Okay sure, the series may be going really fast at the moment and already we are seeing teams... well teaming up faster than the time it takes for me to read a book! However, it's not the end of the world because with series like the Guardians of the Galaxy, they can expand in the cosmic aspect of the multiverse and we have finally superheroes we never thought would make it to the movies.

Although when I refer to a Marvel crossover, I don't necessarily mean a movie with practically every single character. That would be too much and maybe something left for a brand new crossover series in many years or decades to come. What I was referring to was the theme of 2 characters maybe with Spider-Man and possibly another character such as Wolverine or the Hulk. I mean the Wolverine becomes a substantial part of much of the Marvel universe and already, you see him team up with characters like Spider-Man in video games such as Spider-Man: Web of Shadows so if these companies were to at least collaborate as seen when Capcom cooperated with Marvel to make a game with both the series combined, why should this be any different? Spider-Man and Wolverine already crossover in the comic books in the Astonishing Spider-Man and Wolverine. DC is making a movie staring Superman and Batman so why not Marvel?

To be honest, I can see the many Marvel crossovers happening sometime in the future, maybe even as close to the near future as once DC expands in to the Justice League, there may not be any restrictions to stop them from developing any form of crossover so eventually these companies that own all these characters will have to get their act together. That's of course, if the DC movies go well.

Spin-offs

So we've already been informed about the upcoming annual release of Amazing Spider-Man movies until 2017 and this is likely to be the spin-off of Venom and the Sinister-Six but couldn't there be many other spin-off or at least side stories of some characters like Black Cat or more villains especially ones that may not fit the style of the movie series or at least not a first option. Villains such as Morbius may seem cool for a new style of the Marvel universe and even Sam Raimi, the director of the original Spider-Man films considered portraying Morbius at some point in the movies that never came to be. Although he quickly changed his mind and it's possible that some villains may be a bit of step far in to the paranormal. This could either create negative responses or make the villain too realistic for fans of the series... which could also create negative reviews.

It would be interesting however if this became a new series involving a different side to the Goblin ridden New York City with the aspects of villains who may not be used for future movies such as Kraven the Hunter. Who knows? This could even expand in to other forms of entertainment such as TV series like something similar to the Gotham series, books and of course, video games!

So for a set of characters who have a much different side to the series or just don't even have superpowers, why not reintroduce them in a brand new set of movies of their own or a crossover series featuring many fans have been waiting for? Personally, I think Morbius would be a great character for the movies but I don't think it will work well with the mainstream audience. Maybe we'll get some hints or even a twist by the end of the Amazing Spider-Man 4 with Morbius controlling Oscorp secretly to tamper with Human blood which could put him out of the spotlight but welcome him for a new film. As a main villain with lots of on screen of a main movie though, I think that his character would be changed too drastically like a crazy blood sucker and already the series is changing the villains in the upcoming the Amazing Spider-Man 2 and possibly future installments with the Rhino and the Vulture hint looking like villains from an Iron Man movie.

Film adaptations of the video games

Before the superhero movies existed, the video games were the equivalent to the films at the time where everyone would be talking about the upcoming releases and whether to spend money on the X-Men pinball machines. Now, they still exist however they're not the main thing in the world now. As society's changed, there are many interests and many things to talk about, not just the games so they have remained less recognised as compared to the movies. Although the video games still continue to sell, they're not really doing as well in terms of their success unless you count the video game adaptations but even then, less people are buying them. This can be down to all sorts of reasons but what we can see is that some of the games have some interesting concepts such as Web of Shadows and Shattered Dimensions. So why not remake them as a form of movies?

This can easily tie in with crossovers and alternate versions of Spider-Man and I'd love to see the Symbiotes take action in a style of a post-apocalyptic world or all the varieties of Spider-Man or even fly through time with Edge of Time.

I'm not exactly saying that these games should have identical movie adaptations but it could take inspiration such as the many versions or tieing in new elements which would make the film series more exciting rather than just being maintained at the Amazing Spider-Man series involving the Sinister-Six for the rest of the century and what's really great about them is that they're standalone storylines most of the time so they could easily generate some new movie formats. However despite many people loving the games, the games themselves haven't been doing so well and are now beginning to slow down unless you count the dozens of Lego superhero games at the moment. Maybe they will spring forth again and we'll see brand new film adaptations of video games rather than films. I mean, film adaptations of games will become very common in just less than 3 years so who knows what the future could tell us? Maybe a movie on a future Spider-Man can explain. ;) Okay so those are a few of my ideas on where the series could go next but there is one in particular I would like to address and for many of you, it may seem very harsh, to others it may seem like the right way to go but I would like to approach the topic as the last option... not saving the best until last.

Reboot it... again

The reason why Spider-Man was rebooted was mainly due to the fact that Spider-Man 4 was suffering delays and ultimately become one of the many cancelled movies ever since the expansion of the film industry. However Sony was quick to respond and quickly made plans to find a director and establish a brand new series to which it took about 3 years for the same thing for the Wolverine so it's possible that Sony still wanted to maintain the rights to Spider-Man but if Marvel had the rights again, such a sight would be one of the most beautiful things in comic book movie history but would they just put Spider-Man just as himself minus the origin story we know very well of or will they reboot the franchise and create brand new storylines.

Although would this be such a bad thing if they did reboot the movie franchise? I mean, this is something that could happen in probably 20 years where it may not seem like a big issue for many and what if people's tastes of entertainment change or the Amazing Spider-Man 2 suffers poorly? I mean, people enjoy darker themed movies but what happens if they think the new movies are too realistic or just what something much darker or even lighter toned if it stays true to the series? Plus think of all the technological achievements of graphics and special effects and whatnot. I mean the original Spider-Man movies didn't have that much ability and in a few years time, people could look back on the Amazing Spider-Man movies and dislike them for a few reasons like having too many villains and with a reboot, there could be a brand new storyline put in place. Just look at the difference between the original Spider-Man movie storylines and the Amazing Spidey's version. There are a few similarities but the role of Oscorp is the substantial difference as it pretty much controls a whole bunch of the series. What if in a reboot, there could lesser known villains visited or even brand new villains made for the movies?

Overall, I think that eventually, most superhero movies will get reboots regardless of how great they were at the time. Eventually, people in a few decades or even centuries may want the X-Men series to be completely rebooted and that's not even considering whether there are new comic books or superhero movies which are created just for the movies which take over all others from the 1900s. However, I think that if Marvel had the rights to make a Spider-Man movie, it would probably star him without his origin story especially if it's something that happens in just a few years and so that way, fans will get the ultimate crossover of their Marvel superheroes... or 2. Maybe in time for the Avengers 3 or 4.

So there have it! Aside from advertising for the upcoming Amazing Spider-Man 2 movie with my current avatar, I still wonder where the series could go next and whether there's an ultimate plan for Spidey even if he doesn't return to Marvel.

So do you agree with my ideas or would you like the series to go somewhere else like crossing over with Deadpool or a new set of villains?

Thanks for reading! Hope you enjoyed. :)
