Hello everyone and welcome to the mikeerik blog! I'm sorry I haven't been able to blog or been online for a bit as I've had horrible migraine ever since Tuesday. Now ever it's from being online too much, the dramatic changes of our weather from an ice age to ice cream killer heatwave or (and I believe to be the most likely) drinking tropical squash which is too acidic for me and the furnace which possibly contains a little bit higher dose of radiation than normal. AKA my computer room where I can pretty much plays games, watch films and read!

I hope that you haven't been affected by this and that there's nothing wrong in he IGN community for now. If so, I recommend you see your local IGN enforcement team member or in the event of a Zombie outbreak, your local vulture expert... vultures pluck Zombies by the way. ;)

Anyways I haven't written an Assassin's Creed blog for several months. Well excluding wallpapers and tie-ins with other series, it would have been about 5 months ago!!! Yes, not a single full AC blog since January so what else to make my mini comeback! :)

So to divide my blog from end of the world issues and where the start of my blog starts I will represent it with a sign...

Introduction

Okay so on to the blog at hand, the AC series has been able to attract many gamers worldwide with all kinds of historical settings that you wouldn't normally find in other games but also with the use of an open world experience so it feels like you can go anywhere and be a part and interact with the past world. This is where Ubisoft has the potential to go many ways with the series. They can go anywhere in previous history, well at least as far back as 75,000 BC but I better not say anymore so not to spoil anyone. Have I been spoiled? Well it's too late for me. Anyways, not many series can go this far. Franchises can expand as much as they want yes, especially with their own massive universes but with AC, it's already a given just by using the whole real world. Who knows? Maybe they could set it in the future or modern day. ;) However for now there seems to be many places already where the AC series could go including Victorian England, Norwegian Vikings and the... Cavemen. :P

However where does this fit in with the topic of the blog? Well despite all the ways that Ubisoft could explore, I believe they may be lacking on some of the themes especially for the characters personalities but also with how it fits in with the story. This is causing them to stick with many of their originals like a vengeance story with an Ezio like character. If this continues, the AC series may as well be called the Ezio clone series... just like how the Xbox has turned in to the Halo machine. This is most likely due the worries of investment in to new kinds of gameplay, themes and even games itself as well as the leadership of development at the moment which is probably why Patrice Destiles was fired and hopefully wins his court case. :) Also we're starting to see many more guns used in AC4: Black Flag... because bows and arrows and axes are just too mainstream!

So what kinds of themes could they explore. Well I'll list a few which I think are pretty cool and fresh (much more than a breathmint) and also how AC can keep it's uniqueness.

So here we go...

Natural events

So now I don't want to bore people who love geography and hate history or people who hate geography and history. Just that sentence made me fall asleep a little too. However an event other than just caused by Humans would be amazing. Why? Well most games don't use natural events as a type of evil. Only about Humans and other species... and robots. Now I'm saying that we're gonna have a game about assassinating the Sun (although why else is it shown as a gold target in eagle vision) but instead trying to assassinate Templars before the Vesuvius eruption of 79 AD and after. Say if the main character loses his/her family in the disaster, he has to somehow put them aside and sail across the high seas in search for Templar hunting... or an excuse for some fancy treasure! ;)

Journey

When playing the AC series, for many of you it may seem like a journey for how the characters develop and how the story flows and this goes for many other series too. However with the AC series, it can also link in with the modern story about finding out the unknown mysteries however what I would like to talk about is a story of expedition and discovery. By this I mean a one way trip. Say if it took place during Captain Cook's expedition in the Pacific (cool movie) or Marco polo's journeys in the East, you could visit a few areas but in open world but then never return. That doesn't mean it would be linear since you could return with the use of new memory areas to return to complete the dozens of missions left to complete but the way the story goes, is that you would have to go on with your crew when sailing. We just have to make sure to bring back some cool pressies!

2:28 The wine is Baldrick's urine by the way and contrary to popular belief, yes there is an unlimited supply... yet to some a delicacy.

Discovery and creation

There are many things in history that without the spark of certain ideas for new inventions, we would be in a very different world. AC2 allowed us to use many of Leonardo Da vinci's inventions such as the flying and war machines (which have proved difficulty of gaining full synch and thus less trophies) which made you think that we were more more intelligent back then than we realized. Well for a few people which pretty much gave us more leverage over the city with cool new gadgets but unfortunately never progressed to the 007.

However there hasn't been any with official discoveries which would easily link in with the Templar story and there's many to choose from, as there are many eras available at Ubisoft's disposal. I should probably stop talking like a team "motivator" from Call of Duty. Anyways say it was set with creation of Dynamite in 1866, this could be the main basis for a future game where the main character can gain more power and influence with his friendship with Alfred Nobel OR it could have been the main character's idea for Dynamite but since Nobel is a Templar (just for fiction) he takes it and they become bitter enemies throughout the events of the game where you'll also see the changes from this creation on the environment so more people will be detonating DNT to explode some caves.

Character

Now this would all be pointless without the character and to make it more unique why not explore all kinds of personalities? Lets start with...

Reasons for the character's story

For any story, there's always a reason why a main character... is the main character so if the main character was to be an assassin, why? Well the latest reasons we've had from the AC series is that the characters are forced to become assassins because of vengeance driving them forward through the story where they become the master badass assassins you see today. :) You may have seen this image before showing the assassins motivations throughout the story...

Personally I think with Ezio and Connor, it's both vengeance as an origin story but then it achieves upon the later aspects... apart from pirate booty. I think we're gonna be seeing a whole 2 more years until we're out of this Assassin's of the Caribbean but until then, lets help Connor in the meantime to find his fellow friends as shown in his new biography.

So now we got that cleared, what's next to move on? How about an assassin who is a father or a mother but becomes an assassin out of desperation to protect his/her family. Maybe out of fear or maybe due to the cool fashion! An character who is resented and becomes an assassin to achieve his own secret motives from than for the assassin order? Maybe an assassin that becomes distant and thus rogue becoming someone like Spring-Heeled Jack or even goes in to an opposite motive like starts off as a fighter of justice but over the course of events, he/she becomes a much more darker character.

Another list to the table would be a best friend or sibling throughout the game so the player can connect with the characters better than before since you can see how they both change and adapt especially if they're aiming for very different motives. How about a rival? I thought that when playing AC2, Ezio would have some sort of friendly or aggressive enemy... he didn't so this is the chance for something new! :)

Backround

If you haven't noticed already, the assassin outfit changes all the time throughout all kinds of events to suit the era and country that assassin belongs to. This has been done already in the series like where Connor is part of the Native American tribe but what if the new character was born in to something different? Maybe even the Templar order itself as the son of the priest and runs away from the power they have because he cares more about the people rather than wanting to control them or like a thief as part of a family who are running scared and angry all their life but the main character decides to make a change? These are very different storylines but they would could part and patterns of clothing from their previous life before they became an assassin but also represent what weapons they use. You know you saw Ezio with lots of cool gadgets because of Da Vinci and Connor with brutal weapons because of heritage as a hunter? Well say the character was a butcher, then they'd keep a new shiny axe as one of their main weapons. Maybe a game where you play a Templar. ;)

To be honest, there are many themes and types of character Ubisoft could explore. Possibly even infinite. It's really anything we can think of... that is until 2050 when we gain hyperintelligences and imagination infused with robots! 0_0 In conclusion for this blog, all I wanted to do is get my word across that Assassin's Creed still has lots of potential but Ubisoft doesn't really seem to be fulfilling that. Hopefully that changes with AC4. :D If I was to write down all my ideas, I would probably never finish until the Playstation 122 is released... and then I would think of even more ideas but hopefully this blog makes sense.

So there you have it folks! :D Do you agree that Ubisoft should explore more themes? Do you agree with some of my themes? Do have some ideas of your own? If you have a something to say, please don't hesitate to write in the comments. :)

Also E3 is getting much more closer now and you can expect a story like the ones I have said for... Templar's Greed 4!!! :) So if you are a long time fan or new to the series, why not stay tuned to your MyIGN radios? :)

That's it I'm afraid. Thanks for reading and have a good day! :)
