Hey MyIGNers! It's been almost a whole year since my original MyIGN console announcement so I think it only seems right to well... write a bit more about this theoretical console especially considering that I never had the time to talk about what it would try to achieve, the types of games it would be promoting as an overall sense and what would be available on the system. It is also the perfect way to start off the year with a more detailed blog if you don't count happy new year parties as being very detailed or pictures of our DVD collection, soon to topple Mount Everest. :D

Bearing in mind, this is only a theoretical console I made up so don't get too exited just yet and this won't be including any new exclusives from mikeerik... just yet.

What is the MyIGN console?

To start off this blog, I think that a definition would be the most appropriate and in terms of what it is, it is basically a new console by the MyIGN community which intends to be designed to reflect on game ideas and brand new series of what the MyIGN community wants out of the corners of their dreams. This is the reason why I called it the MyIGN Console rather than the mikeerik console... even though I am the only one talking about it. :D Plus at the fact that the name looks way more neat! This will hopefully encourage the development of new ideas around the gaming community in terms of both gameplay and storyline but this is merely just a small proportion of what the console is capable of and aside from the innovative games, it will also plan to become the first console to look further and prove that everything has potential and to say that this will be completely be designed by the MyIGNers, for the MyIGNers would be wrong as it will aim to do many things in this gaming world in which we will find later in this blog. :)

So now we know just a tad bit about the console, what else could it do and what kinds of games would be on the system? We start off the easiest and a very significant point.

Games

A video game console needs it's most important feature and that is to play games of course! However gaming has progressed with incorporating all kinds of aspects including gameplay with storyline to music and graphics in order to have an impact on the gamer to inspire them in some ways. From games such as Pinball which features the basic featured the "Use more quaters" notion to many varieties we see in the current gen which looks towards the historical settings in Assassin's Creed with a long lasting storyline which gives you an idea to the lifestyles of the dark ages (before Television!) to quick and easy to play games such as Call of Duty where you don't really have to worry about the clock ticking if you're in a rush to go somewhere.

However we need to understand what has occurred to the video game industry in the current day.

What has happened in recent years?

Over time though, despite the huge numbers of franchises, video game celebrities and so forth we can easily look to, gaming has in some areas still maintained a few problems especially after the sixth generation of video games. When the seventh generation hit us, we gradually saw that many games were becoming more basic and shooter based and over this period of time, it did have some positives involving the introduction of new gamers to approach the systems more comfortably but this has created a generation with many negative attitudes towards complex scenarios. For example, in the case that a game is not shooter based, doesn't feature multiplayer, doesn't have the sense that it's like a movie with more cinematics or even if the game isn't advertised enough or just not well known, there games will be quickly brushed aside like nothing and quickly becoming not as popular as it could be and there will be limited awareness of the game if there are gamers that would love to play the game. Now, it's easy for small or indie developed games to be missed on the home console device due to many people simply turning to the mobile phone and portable gaming for that aspect of entertainment.

The MyIGN Console on the other hand will not only follow the possibility of a wide variety of games to play but reinforce it and promote all kinds of games which may seem very new and alien to gamers of this day and age. Everything has potential and so the console will create brand new franchises which may seem out of the blue to continuing games of past generations heading back all the way to the Stoneage! By that I mean around the fifth generation or even the very beginning of video gaming. The console will offer many advertised games but many of those will be games that go unnoticed. To put this in other words, I will categorise what the MyIGN Console will do to certain areas:

Create brand new franchises

We start off with new series to consider. With a new console comes new chances, new possibilities and the symbols and characters that can be seen by players worldwide when they think about what the MyIGN Console is. Take a look at Sony. It's expanded with franchises such as Uncharted with Nathan Drake as a figurehead for action games whereas Ratchet and Clank which stares... Ratchet and Clank, continues to promote platforming attitudes of the console series although if you look at the new PS4 more carefully, it's usually games such as Killzone: Shadow Fall which is advertised with Knack since they are really some of the few series around on the console at the moment. Now just think of the MyIGN Console. One that has mascots for pretty much every genre. For example, my Isonlery series could easily promote more dark and horror themed forms of gaming whereas Nexus will appeal towards more puzzle and platforming audiences. This is if you're a fan of my series of course and what if there were bundles for the console with their own skins you could place on your brand new console or even a pack of creative styles you can decorate with your brand new console?

New franchises is really what keeps the consoles more unique. Sure, there may be some price and features to take in to consideration before it takes your wallet...

but for those looking to play on a console more than just the mainstream third party titles, new series will be made especially to create a new generation of creativity. I mean, look at the original Xbox. Sure there may have been a sequel to the console without Halo but that's a possibility that seems slim unless they had another exclusive to promote. The exclusive, Halo was really the reason how the Xbox is still thriving today. Plus without first party titles, we might as well just have one console.

Expand upon existing franchises

There are many great franchises out there that have become introduced within just the first few years of the seventh generation to series that have existed before the I was even born! In effect, it's no doubt that these series have expanded greatly to become the most talked about games from series like Assassin's Creed to Battlefield, a majority of the people playing games will know what these series are, regardless if they've ever played any of their installments. However, it's clear to see that these many of these series have become the center for criticism. With the rise of more games becoming annualised, they are becoming more popular yes, but many lacking in the potential they could have.

The MyIGN Console will not necessarily solve this problem directly but it will continue the series in other ways. It will not continue the main series but it will instead design it's own series within that universe as well as a few collection of spin-offs. Take Mass Effect for example, a brand new series could easily go down the route of a brand new cycle with a few games based on existing characters or locations from major to minor whilst Bioware continues the main series. This way, the universe can be expanded upon without interfering with what the developers want for their main series as well as making a new exclusive series for the MyIGN Console... not forgetting Templar's Greed. ;)

Why stop there? It doesn't necessarily have to apply to existing video game series but also franchises in other mediums. Why not have games expanding on movie and book series? I don't believe that video game adaptations on movies are a bad thing. Look at Monster's Inc Scare Island.

That was a success but it's only when the developers were pressured to design the games quickly with a time frame accounting for only a few months to release the product. The priority the console will go with however is the expansion. Adaptations aren't a big significance but will play a part. So there will be some games based on books which will placed within a novel format of storytelling whilst it will mostly expand the characters and locations. Let's go with the Rook trilogy just for an example. Rather than being a game which is a direct adaptation, there could be a RPG game equivalent to fantasy series like Skyrim where you can explore the world in your own fashion and the author can work with the team to carry out his/her vision for the world. I don't want it to be seen in a bad light like movie adaptations on books are which is why expansion in other areas of the universe would prevent harming what makes the series so great on book form and it can also encourage people to read those books. I mean, practically everyone who played and enjoyed games like DC Universe Online and Batman: Arkham have become encouraged to read more about the series.

Continue old or series not doing so well

Whenever the topic of Crash Bandicoot, Spyro or Croc seem to arise, there is always the reaction of "Those series were just fantastic" and it's clear these franchises have had an impact on a high quantity of gamers in their youth... so why don't we still see their releases anymore? Well with the added complications of companies selling their series to others which have eventually become disbanded and with others, it appears they're not being utilised on a wide scale audience. So what if the MyIGN Console was able to continue them and promote them so that they became as important as Kirby is to Nintendo or how shooters are to mainstream gamers? In the past, many gamers have played many of these games no matter whether they're playing games such as shooters, many will have fond memories of these games and it will help them to reach that nostalgia effect once again. Rebooting however will be a last option. With almost every series I have played, I can say that there are many ways in which they can be continued. With a reboot comes the loss of potential storylining so this is certainly a last option. Say with the Jak and Daxter series, I know that a game or even a series could be made about just the Wastelanders and that's not even including all the other possibilities out there.

Now we look at series that haven't done so well. I'm not talking about games in particular that don't have a great quality but games that have not been well received by reviewers. Every game deserves it's chance and I think for the current day, many have been extremely harsh and this has hindered future installments for the series and only with hope do some franchises survive. Let's look at Remember Me. I haven't played the game itself but I have heard it's been underrated by many reviewers and from people I know well, they have given the game with a rating of over 7.5 which isn't a bad thing. Mass Effect was in the same position when they started and they made games before! Dontnod Entertainment barely made any games prior to this game and the reactions are similar to the original Mass Effect. Overall a great sense of the future style of noir but could do with some improvements is much more than Mass Effect got for the first game. The biggest reasons are that Bioware was well known from the Star Wars: Old Republic series and at the fact that it was an exclusive of the Xbox. Microsoft needed it! Now if Remember Me became an exclusive to the MyIGN Console, it could become promoted and remain safe from the current difficulties of series making it past the first title these days and maybe even become more popular and influential than Mass Effect. I mean, the developers would have the chance to improve on whatever they need to do and just from looking at the sequels of the original Mass Effect and Assassin's Creed, it's safe to say that anything could happen with this series. Another reason why this game was unpopular was the that the protagonist was a female. Although this does sound absurd, many games have suffered the similar criticism however Tomb Raider offered a heroine and the game was successful due to popular advertising. The same thing could easily happen to a Remember Me sequel. Even if a sequel doesn't go so great, the characters and settings will still have a place on the MyIGN community beat em ups games. :D

The System

The system itself will offer many online and offline services including free hub areas on the console similar to Playstation Home where you are free to explore areas, watch trailers and talk with characters from MyIGN exclusives as well as fight with them or against them if you wish... or race around and play Chess. Who knows? Maybe they'll be controlled by a certain MyIGNer. :D This can promote games in a more suitable manner without any lack of fun to engage the gamer.

Freedom within gaming ideas

If there's one thing I've known about writing blogs which have taken over my life and possibly reduced my life expectancy, I realise that people do enjoy listening to my ideas and I can let myself become heard whenever I wish even if I don't want to talk about all of my ideas. However, I am just one gamer out of many and I know that many people if not everyone would want their dream games to become a reality. These will range from characters and settings within MyIGN community games which bring together many of MyIGNer ideas and to their dream game which can be directed by the inventor of the idea themselves and aided by others within the community which will eventually allow it to become an exclusive to the console. No matter how big or small the game, the MyIGN Console will make it available.

This is just the beginning of what could become something much greater. Just because it is known as the MyIGN console, it doesn't mean that it will be restricted towards MyIGNers completely. There will be a larger and more efficient connectivity with the gamers who buy the console and fans of the series it will continue to offer with the developers themselves. I mean many developers these days appear to go a little shut eye and hide away their plans for the games. I mean, it's not a bad problem as it could surprise gamers once the games have been released however at times, it just seems that they may avoid the community altogether including those who are most passionate about it. With the MyIGN console, it will take a different approach. Sure the developers are in charge and they can do whatever they want with their products but fans have the right to express whether they believe a certain franchise is going to fast if it is lacking in ways of creativity and whether certain areas of the game are converting in to a genre that is moving too large of a step in to a region that is making the series something else. The MyIGN developers will hope to take issues like this in to consideration and aim to solve the many issues fans may be complaining about and hope to create brand new games in order to please both sides of the argument but without hindering a significant proportion of the developer's plans.

Now all this can be contacted with online forums that the MyIGN Console will offer as well as direct feedback to the MyIGN community and opportunities can be offered on a wider basis to ensure people can not only join in the discussions but also became a developer themselves. I mean, sometimes the gaming companies receive lots of criticism for it's reputation. Many say that the subject of video gaming is very competitive and it's easy to understand how people will believe that sometimes people are just hiring anyone if they know someone since why else would games slump if it's only the "best people for the job". Everyone deserves a chance and the MyIGN Console will help make that happen!

Accessibility between Nintendo and PC games

There will be many indie games for the system and they are very much welcomed on the system however it will offer many information concerning all kinds of news between different gaming consoles. It will be a competitive console towards the Sony and Microsoft consoles but it will remain a slight partnership at least. This is due to the creativity of the console and it's games which is only a small step towards aiding in regionalising games from Japan that we've probably never heard of. There's probably many consoles there that we don't even know about! 0_0 Anyway, since Sony now has a majority of it's operations within the United States, it's confusing how the console series of the Playstation that was once in Japan's hands is now across the other pond and now it's likely we'll see much less Japanese type RPGs in the future. This will show that Nintendo isn't a childish company and it does show innovation. Games won't be offered as it won't try to interfere with it's exclusives but demos will be provided so people will think twice about the consoles! :)

The MyIGN Console can offer games of high and low capacity which is why the indie games that you can easily find on the system are quick and easy to play with a mix of games with worlds so expansive, you'll wonder whether Earth is a little too small to be on. In particular, it will recognise that there are many great games that sell well on the PC systems but very little on the home consoles mainly because they aren't popular. For the games that won't make the MyIGN Console systems explode, they can be accessed via ports as well as being provided with demos and the latest news!

Celebrations and charities

What the current consoles are missing so far is the lack of parties or even providing knowledge on current events around the world. Aside from the E3 events, we don't see many events concerning days including Christmas Day or New Years. In this case, there will be more than just free games like you can find if you're a Playstation Plus member but also a thank you surprise package full of games after every year that haven't even been announced to some juicy trailers and demos on the games you are most waiting for especially since it'll categorise the games you play and also recommend other genres.

Many celebrations will take place with music and of course... food during the announcements every year and all the money will head right away towards donations which will play a big part in the system itself as memberships for cheaper games will be directed towards charities as well as an extra package of surprise games later in the year if you would like one. :) These charities will range from many things from helplines for abuse to research in to diseases and during the event that countries need our help, the MyIGN community will organise contests including marathons and who can eat the most burgers in 5 minutes. :)

This will also give an insight in to other issues around world to help players gain an insight in to the world around them and many of these competitions will be asked in the discussions between developers and players about what they would like to see next and even some games to help improve education and of course, encourage a friend that has becoming almost non-existent to many gamers throughout the world and that is reading. Within the MyIGN system, a book category will be able to spread the world and for one of the first times ever, advertise books without there needing a film adaptation.

Okay, so I'll stop there for now since I have been writing this blog for a while but I hope you understand what the console would try to do after I clarified it... if it ever existed. It is also the basis of new blogs such as games that could make a return and whatnot. It was also the fact that many people missed the MyIGN Console to which I apologise and I'm sorry if you were hoping for more MyIGN game announcements but there's always next time! :)

Thanks for reading! Hope you enjoyed. :)
