Blog issues advice

Hey everyone! Just a quick blog for ya. :) Seeing as that I couldn't publish my blogs due to many issues with IGN, it seems many people have suffered with the same problems which is why many people have just left IGN since they struggled with this and it's sad to see that they have left even after they searched for help. When I went search for help, there doesn't seem to be any clear advice about solving these issues. Not even the people who run IGN can understand it! However there is some good news...I think I've worked a way around some of these issues and I would like to help people with this issue anyway I can, whether it's happening now or can help if it ever happens in the future... that is... if this blog publishes.

Problem: Blog won't post

So first of all, when you've written a long blog and put so much effort in but then when you press publish, it just says error occurred at the top in a yellow banner, blog pending, it's gonna kind of put you off and in many cases, make you become frustrated. This happened to me last week and it is most likely due to too many pics... but don't start deleting pics just yet. Perhaps you could copy the pic, publish (if it works) and if it does, edit the blog and paste the pic but that's where I learnt the secret answer. Updating a blog is much more quicker than publishing and very likely to have no errors.

Solution

So here's what I did and what may work for you too and to make it easier, I'll use bullet point form... without the bullet point. :P So the following steps are...

1. After you've written a draft blog and you know that you've got everything ready for publishing but the blog won't publish since it's pending or something, copy the whole blog.

2. Don't trash, delete or do anything negative to your full written draft blog. Instead make a new draft blog with the same or similar title and just post it. That's right! Absolutely nothing else. Nothing pasted in to the blog. Just the title with nothing else written. Essentially an empty blog.

3. Don't threat that people will comment and say, "Oy this blog has nothing!" The step you will do next is really simple and fast. Plus people who look at an empty blog probably won't be bothered. :D So you have your empty blog published just with the title. Open up your empty blog and go in to edit. Now this is where the copy part from step 1 pays of. Just paste all of it in to the section where there's nothing and then you'll have all your work right there. Then press update where publish would usually be if it was never published.

4. Then tah da! It's no longer an empty blog but instead, the work you've written but wouldn't publish on your other blog is now up and running.

You may think that if you have a slow internet connection, this won't work. Well maybe but then again, I have a slow internet connection (it didn't used to be this way) and I was able update my blogs. :) BTW Sometimes blogs won't show up straight away which is normal, just have to wait a little while.

So basically, it's much easier to post an empty blog and paste all your work in to the edit section and update it, thus saving all your work where people can see all the detailed and in some times comedic work you've done. Although if you ever press trash by accident which is just below the publish/update button (I know, it's a silly place) there will be a yellow banner at the top and you can press undo. If you can't see that, go to all posts on the left side, click the trash button at the top, hover over the blog post that you accidentally trashed and it will say, restore and right next to it, delete permanently. Be very careful!!! Make sure you press restore and not delete permanently... unless you really just want to destroy your blog and erase it. :D

Before I thought it was my internet connection but nope! It's IGN's website which is laggy at many times. Just like where I thought that I couldn't play Uncharted 3 and Assassin's Creed multiplayer, it was just Naughty Dog's and Ubisoft's servers and I have proof... Ubisoft got hacked. When I played Uncharted 2 MP, it was fine... unless the games feared my name NoSequel. ;) Although I was ok to believe that it was the carpenters since they did break up our extension lead. However, the internet connection could always be partly the problem. I'm not saying, get a faster broadband but make sure that there aren't many devices connected to the internet at one time otherwise it could go slower.

Alternatives

Many people have waited for their blog's to publish while pending but for me, I waited about 4 days and nothing and I think pressing publish while it's pending will just keep making it take even longer so you could change it's status back to draft rather than pending near the publish/update button and you could just try again but my advice, I wouldn't wait and just edit an already published empty blog. If for some reason the steps don't work for you, you could make a few blogs on the Wordpress website or other sites containing blogs like Tumblr and just post links to your friends to the published blog. If you're new to IGN, then you could always send links to the people in the comment section or my followers. I'm sure they won't mind. :)

However no matter if a blog doesn't publish, remember you've done well!

Problem: Malware

This is something that I've also experienced across the voyage of blogging and... it's horrible. It was my 1 year anniversary blog and a few days after posting it, Google Chrome kept showing me a message about a malware infection. I looked on the link of the malware area and it was from a go outdoors for women site. 0_o I had to delete this blog but I realized there was a way around this.

Solution

Usually if there are lots of links and pics, it could cause malware due to IGN's low if any security so after editing your blog and deleting a few of these pics and adding them again or different ones, then the warning's over. However AVG can't really eat it up or anything... I think. It will still block you from viewing the page so if you can't access the way to edit, just go on your Wordpress account. I mean that's where all your blogs on IGN are written. If you can't access Wordpress but can on IGN... but it's blocked with the warning, you could use the normal internet explorer without Google Chrome so that it won't show the warning and you can just go ahead with editing.

Problem: Comments won't show

This isn't necessarily about a blog but when you comment on others or your own blog, sometimes they won't show. This is very common and is because of a laggy comment system known as...

Yes! A system that has troubled IGNers for a long time and I do remember a time before this before July last year... unless that was Disqus with a different makeover! 0_0

Ok, so sometimes you may not be alerted when someone's commented on your blogs or to your reply on another blog but look anyway since it doesn't hurt. However most of the time, it's just that the first comment won't show for about 2 minutes sometimes so nothing major but it's always a good thing to copy and post your comment because you never know whether it will delete your comment for good! Although it's rare, I wouldn't be surprised if there are witch hunts against it. :D Oh wait, there are!

Boards

There is another problem on the boards, where it will say an error occurred while posting comment. Just click the cross of that message and post it again. It's that simple! :D

So I hope these pieces of advice find you well if you ever do run in to several of these problems and could even help me if I forget what I need to do... that is if I remember I even made this blog. :D I apologize that I may not know the answers to other issues but this was the best I could do and if I hear or discover anything that could act as a solution to that problem, you'll be the first to know. :)

Thanks for reading! Have a good day. :)
