Hello everyone! Today, I reveal a new blog series known as... you guessed it, which do you prefer which gives you the option of choosing between 2 or more of a subject. This also includes a sub blog series part of the which do you prefer series but based on fictional planets where I'll give you pros and cons to help you with your final answer. So here it goes...
The question for today is which planet would you prefer to live on? At the moment I will only use an option of 2 planets since it's an experimental blog but we'll see how it goes. So the planets are...
1. Illium from the Mass Effect video game series
2. Tatooine from the Star Wars series
Illium
First we have Illium which to many, is a another list to the Asari colony worlds although it's not necessarily their world. It's been colonized and corporated their own interests which makes it full of life of everything with the latest tech. It means big business here and a massive trade area since it borders the Asari Republics and Terminus Systems to which allows it to bring new cultures and goods as well as many, varied species all around the Milky Way Galaxy from the loyal Turians to the hypnotic Hanar! 0_0 Who knows? Maybe we'll even see a few Reapers along the way.
However, before I say it's an amazing sleek environment, we must separate it in to pros and cons so here they are.
Pros
So first off, lets start off where it's like in terms of environment. Well it's a garden world so it's ot enough to melt your ice lollies in 5 seconds but not cold enough so that lasers become icicles. This allows many aliens to arrive safely where it's been able to reach a population of about 84,950,000!!! and traffic controls being heavily regulated and relaxed... although I'd hate to see what would happen if there were hover car lanes entering the planet. The gravity of the planet is 1.2g so it's efficient for many species such as Humans to stay and relax on the planet without having to worry about a jump, turning in to a game of aim for the closest space station. The surface temperature on the other hand is an average 63 degrees celcuis but that's okay because the Asari's architecture and awesome central heating reduces the effects of this on residents. How nice!
Now we head off to the cities! Living in a city such as it's capital, Nos Astra is basically like living in a futuristic, vast and vibrant metropolis that seems to compete with many other city planets. If you get injured, you might as well head for the next teleporter to get quick, easy access to hospitals. Feeling hungry? Well the local food shack have a lush cuisine which can be delivered to your door in just a few minutes. Remember, if they arrive over a second late, you'll get a full refund and 10% off your next delivery!
The spectacular views add to an aesthetically pleasing surrounding which many natives forget to just take a look for a little while and is known for and I quote, Illium's self-congratulatory media exalts its own society with the provincial arrogance of "new money", glorifying in "sexiest CEOs" and "ten richest residents" lists.
Feel free to use the wallpapers.
Cons
However behind the luxery and spectacular sights to see, there are some dark secrets much more sinister than the consoles that break up. As in literally.
Anyways, there are problems with living in this region of space. First off is the length of time it takes for a burger delivery to arrive at your door is double the amount of time it takes for crimelords to easily take you away since it's just on the border of the Terminus Systems. Not matter how tightly regulated the trade possessions flowing in to the planet's economy are or the fact that it is the highest surveillanced planets in the known galaxy, workers in many areas have very small wages and most businesses have monopoly power so they can exploit consumers with higher prices (more that the Mass Effect 3 single-player DLC 0_0) and people who leave developments seem to go "missing."
There are also signs of discrimination towards minorities such as the Volus since the Asari have a higher dominance in government and with this uneasy feeling, people have to watch out as many have to worry about avoiding signing certain things that would ever give them some sort of payment request in the thousands, if not millions or the well known result of simply being used for certain labour which many would call slavery or "endenchered servants." No wonder many people are on edge and can't put their mind off troubles like assassins and bureaucrats.
Are the good or bad factors outweighing your decision already? Well don't be too quick to judge as we go on to the next planet.
Tatooine
Tatooine is a much harsh planet due to the fact that within it's Tatoo star system, contains 2 stars!... and is even the closest! This makes it extremely arid, with barely any water of about 1% which are usually uncovered by moisture farmers and an extra noon, blazing the sky unlike any other planet in the galaxy a long, long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away. However it didn't always used to be like this. About 25,783 years before the events of the Battle of Yavin, it was a lush paradise with oceans, tropical scenery and full of life in the primitive aspect.
However after Rakatan Infinite Empire invaded the planet, much of the vegetation was destroyed, annihilating crops and agriculture and replacing it with an endless array of sand and desert. Just a little bit of backround knowledge... (coughs) with a little bit of help from Wookiepedia (coughs) I haven't watched the series for years so forgive me.
So lets continue with many more pros and cons for a perfect dream home.
Pros
Yes, it is very easy to get a tan. Although too quickly for many people's liking but after a day of 2 blazing suns, maybe the cooler sunsets will interest you due to the essence of peace but just to remind you to bring a a huge collection of jackets with you. For a moisture farmer, it is very peaceful but for those living in a city like Mos Eisely and if you like multicultural societies, you're in the right place with Humans, Rodians, Toongs, etc. So it's not hard to find a bit of tech for all your needs... for a bit of a large fee. However aside from this, you can visit many events like podracing where you may get the odd few explosions and sabotages a couple of times but what better place to enjoy the uproars of an Arena of the planet' most popular racing sport.
Cons
Although, looking through the amount of cons, this place seems very deadly and very difficult to survive. Lets start off with it's place in the universe. The fact that Tatooine's temperature reaches up to 42 degrees celcius per average but there is barely any shelter. If you get stuck in a desert, you're on your own and to make matters worse, it's incredibly sparsely populated in those regions so there's a massive array of desert to surpass in order just to reach a nearby settlement thus there is little protection against the twin Solar rays like on Illium. What's more is that there are plenty of angry Husken raiders who kill any non-natives and use podraces like shooting contests and Jawas have to scavenge the last remaining remnants of resources so it's a struggle for survival for most even in the markets where many people are forced to become slaves to gain a living.
Like Illium, many people are on edge on what people in populated areas will do. It's not all bad. I mean it's lively and all but it's dangerous since you have to watch out from being abducted by crimelords including the Hutts.
Overall
So after few pros and cons lists,it's now up to you to decide which planet you would prefer to live on. Overall Illium and Tatooine are very similar as they are both planets where there seems to be no where to hide from crimelords or businesses. The major difference is the landscape as Illium is a widely populated planet with many cities whereas Tatooine is sparsely populated and dry but these both hold problems as you can ever be highly monitored or rely on a few resources.
I suppose it depends who you are. If you're high in business, Illium is a great place to live and Tatooine is an exhilarating place if you're a top podracer but if you do something wrong or a slave or "adenchered servant", it's highly likely you'll be caught if you try to run. There seems to be no escape although if you're a moisture farmer, you have to worry about the small resources you have. If it runs out, you're on your own for a few hundred miles but then again it's difficult for the Empire to find you and you could just go to your local Jawa store.
For me, I was going to choose Tatooine because I feel that there are many more species which makes it much more cool even if there were aliens that aren't afraid to start a bar fight. However looking back I don't feel there's much to the scenery that would interest me since the sunlight would blind me and I don't really like places which are too warm. Therefore, Illium is my choice since it's not too difficult to become part of a business even if there are low wages and how much people trust each other and it's not far from your local space port or galactic burger king.
However if I was like a marauder on Tatooine and skilled scavenger, then I would choose that without a doubt so next time, I will say something like, would you prefer to be a marauder on Tatooine or a business owner on Illium and also whether you would like to live during certain eras like during the Old Republic or the Reaper Invasion? Sorry if it's not clear now for this blog but this problem will be resolved for the next blog. Don't worry!
So for now, I guess weigh up the pros and cons for both planets so you can answer the question and no, you can't pick neither.
Good luck and if you would like to see more of these kinds of blogs, please don't hesitate to write in the comments.
Thanks for reading! Have a good day.
