Characters, teams and places I want to see with their own video games

Hey MyIGNers! It's been a while since my previous blog. Almost an entire week! 0_0 Unfortunately, writing only a few blogs might be common for the next week or two since I'll be pretty busy. Which means it's only fair that I write another blog which can get the whole community involved. Yes! It's time for another community blog! :)

About 2 years ago, I become obsessed with spin-offs. I'm not quite sure why but I think it's most likely because I just liked the expansion of the lore of some universes and since movies were doing it (although perhaps not amazingly) why not video games too? Therefore, I decided to write a few blogs about the spin-offs or new series which could be based on an existing character or aspect of that video game universe. For example, a new series based on the first cycle after the Reapers were created in Mass Effect. Although I also wrote an entire blog about the Assassin's Creed games I would love to see such as a game based on Malik... we all know who he is right? :)

However in most recent years, there have been more and more adaptations of comic books such as The Witcher and sometimes entire series focused on a single character like the Batman: Arkham series. In a way, it makes me feel excited to see whether there will be many more games or series based on characters and other aspects not just from video game universes but other forms of entertainment too like movies and TV series. So I've decided to write out a community blog to see what you would pick with this difficult decision since I wonder what other people would choose. Why is it difficult you say? Well here are the rules:

You can pick any character, team, location, item or other aspect you would like to see with an entire video game based on them but within each entertainment category.. you can only choose one character or team or whatever. It's essentially to try and pick out your dream game you would like to see within as a video game.

... Although close seconds count if it was a difficult decision to make.

Preferably the character should originate from it's original introduction such as Iron Man would be more closer comic books rather than movies but if you want to go all Marvel or something by including movies and TV series, I say go for it! The reason being for the character's original form (which means books or movies rather than the original version of Superman) in entertainment is just to make it seem more diverse. So there's nothing stopping you from including Iron Man in comic books and Thor in movies. :)

The things you pick can be from any kind of entertainment category from movies to poems or plays. Go wild!

The adaptations of games doesn't mean that they will be spin-offs. They could be brand new series, prequels, continuations, sequels or reboots. Just in case you're horrified by the word spin-off. :D

The character or whatever you decide doesn't necessarily have to be fictional. It could be based on mythology or a real life person too! I mean who knows if Ezio Auditore da Firenze is real?

Last but not least, you can tag up to 5 people to write up their own list but there's nothing stopping you from writing your own if you're not tagged. :) You also don't need to write a blog if you have been tagged. No pressure.

So here's my list that you've all been waiting for. Enjoy! :)

Comic books - Teen Titans

I'm not a huge sage of Detective Comics, superhero comics... or just comic books in general (I'm trying) but Teen Titans has always stood out for me. Mostly because when I was younger, I used to watch the Teen Titans animated series which in a way, was the first series that I saw with superpowers... aside from all the other TV programmes and video games who had superpowers but weren't called a superhero series. Anyways, I enjoyed the series because it was much more easier to relate to them since I was around the same age of the characters anyway. Well perhaps a little younger. When it came to more adult characters such as Superman, it didn't really interest me because I didn't quite understand them at time and they also appeared more like deities whereas the Teen Titans had a lot of superpowers yet weaknesses too which made them standout more... especially to their villains!

However the reason why I would want to the particular team with it's own video game is also because within most of the DC and Marvel games available, many feature a whole bunch of characters but as a result, only a few of them have many abilities and the ones which do are mostly the most common characters that almost everyone knows about. Sometimes when I play the Lego games, I wonder whether there's more to this character or whether they will be a main lead in a new game such as Lego Justice League or Lego X-Men or something. So if a Teen Titans game focused on at least 4 playable characters to as many as 6 maybe, then they could feature a whole bunch of powers and maybe their own storylines. I mean we could have the choice to play as Robin or Sunfire and then play as a whole bunch once they become a team just like other RPGs. Maybe a new origin story where most of the characters of the Justice League have vanished or they simply never met their sidekicks and stopped their crime fighting but then characters such as Robin could find out about the characters rather than meeting them face to face.

However it could be more personal so we can know the characters more but instead of standing around like the Mass Effect characters for loyalty missions, they could connect together such as when playing as a character including Raven, she could bump in to Beast Boy whilst he was completing his own missions (or just trying to level up with more experience points) so there would be a whole bunch of exclusive missions depending on who you start off with which makes it more replayable. As well as a more unique style of the characters they might know and phone and team up with such as Zatanna. Maybe even choose to recruit or refuse potential members so that everyone could have their own version of Teen Titans. I don't really mind what kind of roster of version we could start off with since all the characters seem so cool but I think characters such as Robin, Raven and Cyborg are essential since they could lead to the Titan Tower and villains including Deathstroke and Trigon. Hopefully similar to Infamous with open world. :)

Close second: Iron Man

I just feel like the Iron Man movie series was rushed too much just for the Avengers film. Maybe not as much as Thor and Captain America but I just believe that it needed a trilogy first so we could learn more about the character and how he may combat all the many villains he may face. Particularly the group known as AIM which could have helped lead to the Avengers movie. So a video game would help focus on the character in general and it almost seems like a character suited for a video game. I mean upgrades, damaged parts in need of repairs and a huge organisation full of superhumans themselves. Plus, it would be fine to fly around the cities or dress up as Tony Stark so you can just drive around in really expensive cars. :)

However I guess I let my memories of the Teen Titans get to me and I'm not a huge fan of Iron Man. He's my favourite of the Avengers team, yes but he doesn't really have a wide variety of villains and the universe doesn't seem as diverse as a team full of superhumans and abilities less involved on shooting.

Poems - Valkyries

No! Not the Tom Cruise movie or anything like that. Instead, Valkyries are warrior like females (I say females on it's own because I don't think many males have joined) who reside in the realm of Asgard in Norse mythology of course! They are depicted many times within poems such as Voluspa yet there have been a whole bunch of movie adaptations of characters such as Thor and Loki. So I think it would be nice to feature the Valkyries with their own stories. Particularly since it could expand the lore of Norse mythology with many different deities and monsters and it would be great to show how they may connect or decide to defeat some of these creatures with their powers. Each one could have their own unique abilities and playable at certain points to show they may earn new powers from defeating monsters or increasing the number of allies. However to make things more interesting, maybe the main character could be someone trying be like the Valkyries perhaps or the protagonist could have angered Odin in some way and has sent the Valkyries to hunt down the main characters and the main antagonists could be able to summon other beings to help them. In a Middle Ages style of setting but it doesn't necessarily have to be that way and could have close to a modern day setting or a new society where the Norse Gods have showed themselves to the world. I think this one kind of stands out for me because I just think it would be fun to ride around in Chariots and fly around the skies with Horses... not Reindeer.

TV Series - Destiny

Based on the spaceship developed by beings known as the Ancients long ago  from the Stargate universe. It was left with only a Stargate and a few clues as to what the ship' purpose is for... as well as a few damaged parts leading in to the depths of Space by the time the Humans arrive. Stargate Universe did reveal some interesting things about Destiny, however due to the cancellation of the series, there is still a lot of mysteries remaining. Not just for Destiny the whole sub series too.

So it would be cool to finish off the series or at least continue it with another means such as a video game or comic book since a movie has been ruled out. In a way, it would be nice to focus on another group of Humans and perhaps Alien characters who made their way through the Stargate and have their own histories, especially since they may not be from the Milky Way or even from a place that we know about. Yet it could still focus on elements on the TV series. Within the first season, it was more about survival by collecting as many resources as possible as well as several dangers lurking within the path the ship was heading. Whereas the second season was more involved on... Drones. Anyways, it would be great to introduce new aspects as well such as beings lurking on the ship already and understanding other beings which may have used the ship before themselves. I mean, it would be fun to learn about countless of mysterious beings and maybe learn from their mistakes. Maybe it could even be a prequel or a a sequel to the SGU TV series so we can see what happened to the crew with the Kino if they made it off the ship... or if they were abducted by Aliens. Perhaps meet some of them stranded on other planets if it goes off course or in reverse.

It could feature a mixture of new planets and species which would make the game appear much more diverse and could possibly attract both new and old audiences. New in terms of the gaming community and the old when considering the fans who abandoned ship after Stargate Atlantis... no pun intended. Not that it would detract from the survival feel but it could feature some cool species, powers and some lovely graphics. :) Stargate unlike Star Wars, doesn't have a good a track record with great video games and many of them have been cancelled but hopefully that will change one day.

Although hopefully Robert Carlyle will be available to return and go crazy about equations... I know that Maths can be tough!

Then again, there is a reboot of Stargate to be released within a few years...

Movies - Darth Maul

This one I found really tricky to decide. There's a lot of movies that I have seen but many probably wouldn't be amazing as a video game... since they don't really involve much don't really involve much action. It's not that they would necessarily be terrible and I believe anything's possible. However, if there was a video game based on some of the films I've seen, it would probably appear to be more of it's own thing and not many fans of the movie would probably play the game but hey, there's no harm in trying. :)

Anyways, Star Wars stood out to me since it's one of my favourite movie series especially since I'm crazy about Space and I never got to watch all the movies completely until about 2010! 0_0 Much of the early memories I do remember were the Prequel Trilogy and even though I didn't quite enjoy Phantom Menace (I mean politics and Space just don't match!), I did enjoy Darth Maul. Maybe because I didn't really see Darth Vader that much before aside from the ending of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back so in a way, Darth Maul was more like Darth Vader... if that makes sense. The first Sith lord with I saw with some crazy stunts!

Although to say that I chose him because he has an interesting personality for a game would be wrong because whilst he may have a double sided Lightsaber, he's not the most intriguing of foes in the universe... but I do think that his character could be improved much more. I mean considering his past life and apprenticeship under Darth Sideous, it may not have made him click completely to the dark side... at least not too quickly. He may have had more thoughts about what he's doing and perhaps a video game could shed some light on this and to represent his emotion much more. There have been many comic books and novels about his character but overall, a franchise is like a historical event... if not more. There's always lots of things that we may not know about and expanding upon this may be the best way to understand it but even then, we may still not know everything. The Universe is just so vast and hopefully this vastness of space will present brand new allies and enemies for Darth Maul, particularly since it could unravel some other characters of the franchise we may already have knowledge of including General Grevious maybe or possibly even Yoda if he becomes confused about his loyalties. Perhaps the Darth Maul we know about is actually a clone of some sort or Darth Sideous has to control him at certain times perhaps. I mean it's not like Darth Sideous will be enjoying political stuff. :P

Like I said, there have already been a plethora of books for the character already within the Expanded Universe and so it's not just me who thinks the character deserves more. Some have showed his past life whereas others have illustrated a possible survival scenario such as having cybernetic legs or surviving as some kind of holographic ghost. It was even likely that there would be a video game based on the character but it was cancelled. Perhaps it would have been similar to the style of The Force Unleashed.

It would be cool to not only see Darth Maul jump from planet to planet but to also see what it was like during the times just before the Clone Wars in a cinematic perspective. Many of the eras such as those shown in the Original and Prequel trilogies and the Force and Unleashed and Old Republic video games seem to appear more unique especially with different characters and events such as The Force Unleashed seems more based on isolation... at least to me. I mean wouldn't it be fun to see new planets and what the era was like and see Darth Maul hide and race after targets. As well as all those Droids around for assistance... or target practice.

Novels - Sanctus

Based on the Sanctus trilogy, the Sanctus are a secret group that has existed for many thousands of years and have tried to preserve a secret from Humanity. Whilst it doesn't sound hugely amazing since secret societies seem to be pretty much everywhere in conspiracy thrillers, I think that it would be interesting to see as a video game. Especially since it's not a huge thing that's been done within video games before. I mean, imagine playing as the people who are protecting the truth or running away from them. Particularly since it would be during a time when strange things are doing on in the world. It does sound a bit like the Assassin's Creed Modern Day storyline but I think it could become it's own thing since the group is more religious rather than a technologically dominant organisation and which either place people try to hide, they still may be able to find them despite the fact that there are only very few members. Plus, it could show different points in history where they have emerged in the world or perhaps they only went silent in the Ancient Times and it would be cool to play as the first members and how they came to be and maybe eras we don't really know about. I guess I just like apocalyptic thrillers which are leading to an uncertain future and Assassin's Creed really isn't that anymore.

Close second: Camp Half-Blood

I love the universe and characters of Percy Jackson and Heroes of Olympus and maybe a video game would show quests in action or even allow for some freedom for the characters... for once. Although the reason why I didn't pick it as top was because I've already talked about another superhero series in detail so I thought it would be nice to talk about something different. Although in a way, if we could make our own characters or play as characters as part of the minor Gods, then that would be "super" and it really becomes a close second!

Video games - Animus test subjects

This is really the spin-off, continuations or series I would want to see the most not just from video games but also most of the franchises out there! It is based on the Assassin's Creed Animus test subjects and I've always thought that there was something about the mysteriousness of the past for the series. A game or even a series focused on this could help us to understand the development of Abstergo and it's knowledge of Piece of Edens but also, it would be a chance for something new. I believe my idea so much that I even wrote my own stories based on this concept... it's called Templar's Greed. Since the series was based on both the historical and modern day aspects, it made me believe that the Assassin's Creed franchise was a journey of two characters rather than one. To me, the modern day isn't bad but it just didn't start off well and if there were new modern day characters, the story could be improved. Imagine the hunt for Piece of Edens and how the new characters may link to Desmond and 2012. Imagine brand new storylines and characters that linked with other characters, not just with the modern day but other historical characters across other eras as well. Imagine the potential plot twists and new perceptions we may have of the Assassins and Templars.

As the franchise progresses, it feels like it's going further in a direction that the original developers did not want. To me, it has become much more simplistic and the story isn't really going anywhere. Sometimes I wonder whether it is actually Assassin's Creed but they're just using it with a brand name. The characters and story have become more simplistic and it would be like seeing Kingdom Hearts turn in to a shooter. I think the series could continued much greater if the modern day took place before the events of 2012 with Animus Test Subjects to give us more understanding on what happens after 2012 and some new revelations or an era where Juno has destroyed all nuclear weapons and devices which might harm her and has forced almost everyone to build pyramids whereas others have survived. The combat for them would be similar to the historical gameplay where it's based more on melee and sword fighting.

The problem is that everytime Ubisoft release another game, it just makes me more upset and it gives the impression that the damage has been done to the series and even if it was to improve, it will simply seem too late. Sorry for my scrapes with Ubisoft but either way, I still think that focusing on what already exists within the series could branch out a new series and start new things. New characters, new orders, new plot twists, new locations, new directions for the series.

So those are the characters, teams, places and concepts I would like to see with their own games or perhaps even an entire series. Even though sometimes the games may not always turn to be amazing and even if they are enjoyable, they're not always what we expected (not in great way) but I think it's great to think about the possibilities and the characters, teams and concepts we could see with their own video games. Many may only exist within our dreams. Others could become a reality... and hopefully, they are the ones we want to see!

Okay, some of these choices took a lot of thinking and no doubt it will probably make others think more too. Perhaps I should have been more specific and just talked about movie characters we would like to see with their own games or something. :P Nah, that would be too easy! :D So here are the people I am going to tag. You will probably think they are very brave!
